As a Minnesota sports fan, misery is our middle name. At this point, we never get our hopes up about anything. The Vikings could have the best season ever, we make it to the playoffs, and we'd all still say 'well, they're going to mess it up somehow'.

We're just so used to disappointment. However, there's one team of ours that does really well and doesn't cause us the sadness that the others do. We'll talk about them in a bit!

ESPN Ranks MN Sports Teams Using the Sports Misery Index

ESPN has this hilarious tool called the Sports Misery Index. With it, you put in the teams you cheer for, and it'll tell you how much misery you suffer from on a scale of 0-100, 100 being the absolute most misery. The rankings are determined by the records of the last 15 years.

As you can imagine, most of our Minnesota teams are pretty high on the rankings.

Where Minnesota Teams Rank on ESPN's Sports Misery Index

Let's start with the ranking they gave the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings got a score of 84/100 on the misery index, which is NOT good... However, there are teams that have it worse (isn't that the most Minnesotan thing to say?). The Vikings ranked as the 16th worst on the misery index.

Moving on the the Twins, they got a score of 88/100, even worse than the Vikings. They also ranked the 9th worst on the misery index out of all MLB teams.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - OCTOBER 11: Pitcher Jose Mijares #50 of the Minnesota Twins hangs his head in disappointment after being benched in the ninth inning against the New York Yankees in Game Three of the ALDS during the 2009 MLB Playoffs at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome on October 11, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Yankees defeated the Twins 4-1. (Photo by Genevieve Ross/Getty Images)

So, in order of most misery to least misery, we have the Timberwolves, Twins, Vikings, Wild, and United.

But there's one team we're missing, and that's the incredible Minnesota Lynx!

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - AUGUST 08: Courtney Williams #10 (R) and Natisha Hiedeman #2 of the Minnesota Lynx celebrate the win against the Washington Mystics after the game at Target Center on August 08, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our women's basketball team is so talented, and the Misery Index agrees, giving them a 0/100 on the misery scale.

If you're looking for a home team that's consistently really good to cheer for, check out a Lynx game!

Side note, the Minnesota Aurora FC, our women's soccer team, is too new to get a score yet.
