Minnesota State Patrol ID’s Victim of Fatal Rochester-Area Crash
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The State Patrol has identified the Mankato woman who lost her life in a crash near the Rochester Airport Wednesday morning.
It happened around 8:45 a.m. The fatal collision involved a large box truck and a small car.
The car driver has been identified as 83-year-old Lenora Ingrid Tahtinen. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an updated version of the state crash report.
60-year-old Jeffry Allen Burnikel of Lime Springs, IA was driving the truck. He was taken from the crash scene to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash report says Burnikel was driving the truck north on County Rd. 8 and Tahtinen’s vehicle was eastbound on Hwy. 30 when the two vehicles collided at the intersection.
Both drivers were buckled up and alcohol was not involved in the deadly crash, the report says. The roads were described as wet at the time of the fatal collision.
The Rochester Fire Department, Stewartville Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the deadly crash.
