The State of Minnesota saw its overall tax collections fall short of expectations in April.

The Department of Management and Budget says a bit over $2.6 billion dollars poured into the state’s coffers last month. That’s around $67 million dollars, or 2.5-percent below the level predicted by the most recent state revenue forecast.

Officials blame the shortfall on normal fluctuations in the timing of payments for certain taxes, including cigarette and tobacco taxes and the state’s health care surcharge. The report shows individual income tax payments were 2.2-percent higher than projected, while sales tax receipts missed the target by about a half percentage point.
