The Northland is in the middle of a Sauna renaissance, and Duluth has just been proclaimed the Sauna capital of the world. We welcomed the spring equinox with The Duluth Great Sweat Together, where hundreds of people got together to break the record for the most people taking a sauna at one time.

Many local sauna businesses took part in the festival. One of those was Cedar & Stone Nordic Sauna. They are located adjacent to Pier B across from Bayfront Festival Park. They recently shared a YouTube video where they announced that they are bringing the first sauna barge to the United States. They just bought a 36-foot barge, which they are going to be building a sauna on.

The Star Tribune reports that it will be big enough for 12 people to have a sauna. It will also have a rooftop deck, diving platform, and panoramic windows.

The owners were inspired after their trip to the Nordic region of Europe where these are very popular. They describe the experience as "magic."

They now want to bring that to people in the Northland and hope to have it in place in time for this July's Finn Fest in Duluth. That takes place June 26-28. That's a quick turnaround to get this done.

The sauna will be wood-fired as well and will operate year-round. It will be moored in the slip between Bayfront Festival Park and Pier B, but they do have plans to someday power the barge with motors and bring it out into Lake Superior and the St. Louis River.
