Washington, D.C. (MNN) - A report released Wednesday by the U.S. Census shows the percentage of Minnesotans lacking health insurance coverage dropped to a record low of 5.9-percent last year.

The Affordable Health Care Act, better known as Obamacare, is being credited with the decline from 8.2-percent the previous year. Over 325,000 Minnesotans have signed up for coverage through the MNsure health insurance exchange since last November.

The state’s uninsured rate was the fifth lowest in the nation. The nationwide rate last year was about 10.5-percent, down from 13.3-percent in 2013.
