MN Woman Accused of Running Over 4 People Charged With Murder
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota woman is accused of intentionally plowing her car into four pedestrians in two separate incidents in Minneapolis that resulted in the death of one of the victims.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County Court, 38-year-old Sophia Elizabeth Sullivan is accused of being the driver of a car that struck two pedestrians at an intersection in South Minneapolis in the early evening of April 30. Moments later, the Minneapolis woman is accused of striking two more pedestrians with her vehicle at an intersection about a half a mile away.
The charges against Sullivan indicate the victims in the first incident reported that they were in a designated crosswalk when a white sedan accelerated through the red light and struck them. They were both transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the second incident, the criminal complaint describes how 2 people were crossing a street when they were hit by a car, causing one of the victims to be thrown approximately 30 feet through the air. The court document says the second victim, was thrown onto the hood of the car and then was dragged by the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries.–
The Deadly Incident Was Recorded by Surveillance Cameras
The court document says surveillance cameras recorded the deadly incident. It shows the car, allegedly driven by Sullivan, accelerating to a high rate of speed and striking the pedestrians just after they stepped into the crosswalk.
The criminal complaint says the video also shows the fatally injured victim on the hood of the car before it suddenly stops, throwing her onto the pavement near the curb of the left side of the road. The charging document says it appears the car then swerved towards the woman and ran her over, causing her to become lodged under the vehicle. The court document says the car is then seen swerving before turning into a parking lot, which caused the victim to come out from under the car after she was apparently run over by the rear tires.
Minneapolis police reported finding the car, which had a smashed windshield and what appeared to be blood on it, parked outside Sullivan's residence.

Sullivan was formally arraigned this afternoon in Hennepin County Court on one count of second-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder and three counts of second-degree assault. Her bail was set at $2 million and she was ordered to return to court in early June.
