A news release from the Rochester Fire Department says a neighbor near a house at 2214 Red Pine Ln. Southwest reported a fire alarm sounding from the reportedly vacant home shortly after 10:30 p.m. The first crews to arrive reported seeing smoke and fire coming from the ceiling and smoke rising from the home’s roof.

Firefighters ensured no one was inside of the house and began knocking down a fire in the kitchen. Crews then swept through the structure to insure no other parts of the home could catch fire and also began ventilating the home, the news release says.

Officials estimate the fire damage at $100,000, saying the house suffered “significant” smoke and fire damage in the kitchen area. The news release says the working smoke alarms in the home helped crews quickly determine the source of the fire and smoke.

Officials are also reminding anyone who sees a fire to immediately call 911. Mayo Clinic Ambulance and the Rochester Police Department also responded to the house fire.
