Not Guilty Plea Entered in Rochester Murder Case

A Rochester teenager accused of a fatal shooting earlier this year has entered not guilty pleas to 2nd-degree murder and other charges.

18-year-old Robert Salley also waived his right to an evidentiary hearing and demanded a jury trial during a hearing this morning in Olmsted County Court.

Salley was arrested in January for allegedly shooting and killing 24-year-old Trevor Boysen in the parking lot of an apartment complex near the Rochester Community and Technical College campus. Rochester police say a surveillance video shows Salley getting into a car and then after exiting the vehicle, firing a gun at the car. The recording then shows Boysen getting out of the vehicle and collapsing on the ground. A half-dozen shell casings were found at the scene and investigators stated the shooting was apparently the result of a "drug deal gone bad."

Salley was on probation at the time for a gun-related incident that occurred in Minneapolis in 2018. Court records show he was a passenger in a car that was stopped for a traffic violation and was caught in possession of a loaded handgun after he took off running.

His next court appearance has not been scheduled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Salley remains in Olmsted County jail with his bail set at $2 million dollars.
