Byron, MN (KROC AM News) - A young child from rural Olmsted County who was bitten in the head by a dog was airlifted to St Marys Hospital.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Behrns says a 911 call was made around 5:45 PM Sunday and the caller said the 18-month old had lost consciousness and was no longer breathing.

Behrns says the child had regained consciousness and was breathing when taken to the hospital. He says it appeared the child had suffered a “serious blood loss. “

The owner of the 10-year-old German Shepherd/Black Lab mix that bit the child told deputies the dog was going to be euthanized Monday.

The home where the incident happened is in the 3200 block of Grand View Lane SW, about 5 miles south of Byron.
