Olmsted County Jail Detainee Stabs His Neck With a Pencil
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A detainee at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital after he apparently stabbed himself in the neck with a pencil Thursday evening.
Sheriff’s Captain James Schueller said the call for service went out around 6:30 p.m. He said the detainee had stabbed himself with a golf-sized pencil that new arrivals are given when they’re booked into the jail.
Schueller said the detainee had surgery at the hospital and was checked out after the procedure before being returned to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center shortly before midnight. The inmate’s name has not been released.
Emergency responders identified him to dispatch as a male in his 20’s. The Rochester Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the incident.
