Olmsted County Meets Damage Threshold For Federal Disaster Aid
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County has been added to the Presidential Major Disaster Declaration for the flooding and severe storm damage that occurred in Minnesota in June and early July.
A news release issued this afternoon by the Olmsted County and Rochester Emergency Management directors indicates some delayed initial damage estimates were finally received last Friday and pushed Olmsted County above the eligibility threshold set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The estimates cover damage to public property and utilities from the torrential rains and severe weather that hit the state between June 14 and July 4th.
Local emergency management officials say FEMA is now requesting damage reports from Olmsted County residents. The information is needed to determine if the County is eligible for the federal government's Individual Assistance program through the major disaster declaration. That assistance could aid homeowners with losses from damage associated with the storms.
The deadline for submitting damage reports, which must include documentation that the losses occurred from June 14 through July 4, is 5 PM on Friday(August 9).
Residents of Olmsted County outside of the city of Rochester can file a damage report through the website:

Rochester residents are asked to email Captain Brett Knapp at bknapp@rochestermn.gov and include their full name, the address where the damage occurred, a phone number, an explanation of the type of damage, and an indication that you have documentation of when the damage occurred.
For residents without access to a computer, smart phone, tablet, or email you are asked to call 507-328-2823 if you live in the city of Rochester or 507-328-6101 if you live elsewhere in Olmsted County.
