Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson has weighed in on the growing reports of a possible ICE sweep this weekend.

Multiple national news media outlets are reporting ICE will target undocumented immigrants, apparently in several major cities.

The city of Rochester and the Rochester Police Dept. Thursday morning issued a joint statement on the news reports.

A fewl hours later, Torgerson issued his own statement:

“Unbeknownst to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and in response to the City of Rochester and Rochester Police Department previously issued statement claiming an Immigration Enforcement operation by the Federal Government we are issuing this statement.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is not aware of any specific enforcement activity by the Federal government in our communities nor have we been informed of any immigration enforcement operation anywhere in Olmsted County.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office law enforcement deputies do not engage in Federal immigration violation enforcement. We do enforce laws that support public safety in our communities.”
