Oronoco, MN (KROC-AM News)- Firefighters fought a vehicle fire on Hwy. 52 north of Rochester

The Pine Island Fire Department says crews responded to the fire on the freeway around 1:20 Friday morning. 

Responding firefighters encountered the vehicle, described as a Mitsubishi pickup, being fully engulfed by the flames when they got to the scene.

Pickup Truck Catches Fire on Hwy. 52 Near 85th St. NW Friday Morning

The vehicle fire broke out on northbound Hwy. 52 near 85th St. NW. 

Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire after deploying a bumper line, the Pine Island Fire Department says. 

Authorities closed the right lane of Hwy. 52 during the firefight.

Driver Shares What Happened

The driver told firefighters that he pulled over after running out of gas.

He said the truck began to smoke while sitting on the side of the road and that flames emerged from underneath the hood. 

Officials say the driver was able to get out of the pickup and was not injured. 

The State Patrol responded to the scene to assist Pine Island firefighters. Crews were at the scene for less than an hour, the Pine Island Fire Department says.

Rochester Locals Re-name One Of The Popular Pieces of Art

Just outside the Rochester Art Center is a large, silver piece of art that is labeled "Tapered Arch-Shaped Sculpture" on Google Maps in Rochester, Minnesota. This 30-foot stainless steel piece of art was created by Po Shu Wang and installed in 2017. If you go inside the Mayo Civic Center, you'll also notice a kiosk that allows visitors to interact with this art sculpture.
