Duluth, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities are investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred in the Duluth area Friday afternoon.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the crash site shortly after 4 p.m. A news release says multiple people saw the aircraft go down in the area of Grassy Point in the Lake Superior Harbor.

First responders located a 52-year-old man from Hermantown upon arrival. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined he was the lone occupant in the plane. 

No structures were damaged. Authorities say the plane crashed on ice in the harbor. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the plane crash. 

Officials say investigators from the NTSB and FAA were also notified and are set to respond to the crash site to begin investigating the fatal plane crash. No other injuries were reported.
