Amazon Van and Car Attached to Flatbed Engulfed by Fire on Hwy. 52 Near Pine Island

Pine Island, MN (KROC-AM News)- A fire engulfed multiple vehicles that were attached to a flatbed on Hwy. 52 Wednesday afternoon.

The Pine Island Fire Department says crews responded to the blaze shortly before 2 p.m. 

Dispatch reported multiple vehicles had caught fire while Pine Island Firefighters were enroute.

The vehicles caught fire about two miles north of the Hwy. 52 and White Bridge Rd. interchange. Responding firefighters encountered an Amazon delivery van and passenger vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

There was also a motorcycle on the flatbed. Firefighters and law enforcement extinguished the vehicle fires and put out spot fires that started in the nearby ditch. 

Much of the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes, according to the Pine Island Fire Department. 

Firefighters Evaluated

Along with the vehicle fires, crews also battled hot temperatures. Zumbrota Area Ambulance responded to the scene to assist with evaluating two firefighters. Neither one was transported from the scene, officials say. 

No injuries were reported. 

It’s unknown what caused the vehicles to start on fire, however no crash related to the fire was reported. A damage estimate is not available. 

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation also responded to the fire scene.
