Plea Deal Reached in Case Involving Toddler’s Death in Rochester
Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Mankato woman has entered into a plea agreement and will be sentenced this spring for causing the death of her young son.
28-year-old Chelsea Olinger was arrested in Rochester last February after the 16-month-old child was transferred from the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Mankato to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of severe injuries. His Mayo Clinic doctors were not able to detect any signs of brain activity and the toddler died several days later. An autopsy blamed the little boy's death on multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
Olinger, who was scheduled to stand trial later this month, was charged with second and third-degree murder, first-degree assault, and a felony count of malicious punishment of a child. Today, she entered a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 18.
