Plea Deal Reached in Rochester, MN Sex Abuse Case
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Attorneys have reached a tentative plea agreement that settles a sexual abuse case and gives a Rochester man a chance to say out of prison.
The case opened last year when two girls reported being sexually abused over a two-year-span that started when they were around seven years old. The girls told Rochester Police that 22-year-old Kevon Elijah Brown would commit the sexual abuse while he was the only adult in the home in Rochester.
The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office charged Brown with two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct last June. On Thursday Brown agreed to a plea deal that calls for him to admit to an amended fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct count, a gross misdemeanor-level charge, in exchange for the prosecution dropping the two felony criminal sexual conduct charges.
Olmsted County Court documents indicate the plea deal calls for a two-year stayed prison sentence and a probation term that has not yet been finalized. The agreement also requires Brown to undergo a physcosexual examination that he be registered as a predatory offender for 10 years.
The agreement comes as the case was set to head to trial next week. A hearing regarding the agreement is scheduled to happen in Olmsted County Court on Friday. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
