Police Drones Aren’t Here Yet, But Maybe Soon
Rochester Police Chief Roger Peterson was on Rochester's Good Morning with Rich Peterson and Kim David Wednesday talking about, among other things, drones.
Technically they're called "Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles." The program has not been approved by the City Council yet, but the department is putting together a plan and hopes to present it first to the Police Oversight Committee, then to the Council. Chief Peterson sees the value and effectiveness of having a drone at the department's disposal..
One major plus is there's an officer on the force already with the required pilots license as well as experience using drones while in the military.
