Recreational trails in the U.S. are essential for several reasons, including enhancing the overall quality of life.

They offer accessible, low-cost opportunities for exercise, like walking and biking,  reduce traffic congestion, and protect natural spaces. Additionally, trails drive tourism, increase property values, and foster community connection

With over 69 million annual visits to regional parks and trails, recreational trails in Minnesota provide critical, accessible, and high-quality outdoor experiences that enhance the quality of life for residents.

Minnesota features over 1,500 miles of developed, state-managed trails across more than 25 major routes, with 647 miles paved. One of the most popular is the Gitchi-Gami State Trail, and now it's getting national recognition once again.
