A recreational fire that got out of control caused about $20,000 in damage at a northeast Rochester apartment building Saturday morning.

The Rochester Fire Department today reported that fire crews responded around 6:30 a.m. to a call concerning a recreational fire at 315 27th Street Northeast. A news release says the call was soon upgraded to a structure fire because the flames were spreading to a detached garage behind the apartment building.

While firefighters were putting out the flames, the nearby apartment building was evacuated until the fire was completely extinguished. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
