Red Wing Man Ruled Competent to Stand Trial For Girl’s Death
Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News) - A judge in Goodhue County has cleared the way for the prosecution of a Red Wing man charged with killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter.
A court order filed today indicates 21-year-old Adam Travis has been found competent to stand trial on a list of charges that include first and second-degree manslaughter stemming from the deadly incident on November 28th, 2017. He initially told investigators the toddler was choking on chicken nuggets and stopped breathing while the girl’s mother was at work and he was caring for the child. She was rushed to Rochester, where doctors at St. Marys Hospital determined she was brain dead and she died the next day after being removed from life support.
The criminal complaint says an autopsy later determined her death was the result of a severe brain injury consistent with physical abuse and Adams eventually admitted shaking the girl. He remains jailed on $200,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at an evidentiary hearing on April 10th.
