Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The unemployment rate in the Rochester area slid below 3-percent last month.

The latest jobs data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows the jobless rate for Olmsted County dropped from 3.3-percent in March to only 2.9 percent in April. That was the lowest rate in the region and the lowest the rate has been since last November when the unemployment rate was only 2.6-percent.

A year ago in April, the Olmsted County jobless rate was 2.8-percent.

Every County in the southeast corner of Minnesota experienced a drop in unemployment last month. The highest rate was found in Freeborn County at 3.7-percent, which was 7-tenths of a point below the rate reported in March. Fillmore County enjoyed the largest drop in its jobless rate. It fell 1.6 percentage points from March to 3.5-percent in April.
