Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council has approved plans for a community fireworks celebration in August.

The plan calls for a pyrotechnic display to be held at Soldiers Field Park on August 22nd, with the following evening listed as the backup in case of rain. City staff recommended moving the fireworks show from its traditional home at Silver Lake to Soldiers Field Park to address traffic, staffing, and safety concerns.

The city earlier canceled the annual Fourth of July fireworks show because of the coronavirus outbreak and the staff recommendation notes there is still a risk the August date could also be impacted by the ongoing pandemic. If that’s the case, the city is looking into the possibility of a drive-in viewing or a televised fireworks show.
