Rochester City Council Receives Chateau Theater Recommendation
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A St. Paul firm has been identified as the top candidate for operating the Chateau Theatre until the historic building undergoes a complete restoration and renovation.
The Rochester City Council is scheduled to vote Monday on the recommended to select Exhibits Development Group from the list of three finalists for the contract. City staff listed three main reasons for moving forward with a relationship with EDG. The first is the firm’s plan to have events, performances, and exhibits available to the public 360 days a year. The staff recommendation also points to EDG’s willingness to bring expensive exhibits and potential funding sources to Rochester through the group’s established partnerships, as well as the company’s commitment to working with local partners.
The proposal presented to the city by Exhibits Development Group requested $230,000 from the city for additional upgrades to the Chateau, which was the lowest upfront cost estimate of the three finalists. The plan calls additional lighting and other electrical systems, a 260-square-feet of retail space and an 800-square-foot lounge and cafe within the Chateau.
EDG says its goal is to generate over 120,000 visits per year from the attractions it has planned for the Chateau. It proposes the city would keep 10-percent of the profits from the operation, which has been estimated at around $50,000 annually.
The two other finalists for the contract are the Arts Trust of Minnesota and Entourage Events Group.
