Rochester City Council Reviews Heart of the City Concepts
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The design team developing the DMC’s Heart of the City district has unveiled some eye-catching concepts.
The team met with the Rochester City Council Monday and presented several schematic designs for the district that has been called one of the most important of the DMC initiative.
Much of the input for the schematic concepts came from downtown businesses and citizens.
Nearly all parts of the district would undergo change, including the stretch of First Avenue Southwest between Second and Center streets. It would still be open to motor traffic but emphasize pedestrian amenities.
Another concept calls for placing a deck next to the skyway located at the west side of the Peace Plaza. That name is also facing a possible change to Market Plaza.
Besides the various concept designs, another item caught the council’s attention - the estimated $46 million capital cost.
The design team will continue fine-tuning the concepts before bringing them back for final consideration.
