Rochester Could See Ice Storm on Monday and Tuesday
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service is predicting a messy and slippery mix of precipitation will visit southeastern Minnesota on Monday and Tuesday.
Most of the region, including Rochester, is included in a winter weather advisory from midnight Sunday through 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
At this point, forecasters are forecasting mainly rain and freezing rain in southeastern Minnesota, with multiple waves of precipitation predicted to begin on Monday. While minor snow accumulations are possible, significant icing is likely. The National Weather Service says some areas could see a quarter inch or more of ice, which would create treacherous driving conditions. The ice could also cause tree branches to snap and result in power outages throughout the region.
Officials say anyone with travel plans needs to pay close attention to the forecast and road condition reports.
