Rochester Drug Trafficker Sent to Prison for Wisconsin Gun Crime
Madison, WI (KROC-AM News)- The U.S. Attorney's Office for western Wisconsin says a Rochester man convicted of a weapons violation will spend the next two years in federal prison.
32-year-old Rayshawn Motlety pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in September. He was charged for the crime after La Crosse police officers discovered a loaded Smith and Wesson .380 in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Officers reported smelling the odor of marijuana which prompted a search that led to the discovery of the weapon. Court documents in the case say Motley denied knowing about the gun, however a lab test found his DNA on the firearm.
Motley was convicted of a felony drug trafficking charge in Olmsted County in 2012 and faces drug trafficking charges in northern Minnesota’s St. Louis County. Motley’s two-year prison term will be followed by three years of supervised release.
