St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man is headed to federal prison for a drug trafficking conviction.

The US Attorney for Minnesota today announced that 41-year-old Erick Fountain Thomas has been ordered to serve 198 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release. Back in August, Thomas entered a guilty plea to one count of possession with the intent to distribute heroin and methamphetamine.

In court documents, Thomas is described as a large-scale heroin and methamphetamine dealer in the Rochester area. Federal authorities say he used numerous guns to protect his drug operation.

The charges say Rochester police and the DEA executed a search warrant at his home in August 2020 and confiscated about four grams each of heroin and methamphetamine. The investigators also found four loaded handguns, a loaded AR-15 style rifle, along with ammunition, firearm accessories, drug cutting agents, digital scales, and a brick press.

As part of the investigation, investigators also went to a FedEx office in Rochester and seized a package that Thomas had directed another person to send to him at a California address. Court documents indicate the package contained more than $68,000 in cash drug proceeds.
