Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Former State Representative Kim Norton easily won the election to succeed Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede next year, but a couple recounts may be needed before the election results can be finalized for two seats on the Rochester City Council. The preliminary results have Patrick Keane edging Heather Holmes by only 44 votes and Shawn Palmer defeating Julie Hickey by just 60 votes, while Nick Campion easily won reelection.

Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem won another term by defeating a challenger from his own office. County Commissioner Matt Flynn was also re-elected, while Commissioners Ken Brown and Sheila Kiscaden, along with Sheriff Kevin Torgerson ran unopposed.

Cathy Nathan and Melissa Amundsen were elected to replace two departing members of the Rochester School Board and incumbents Jean Marvin and Julie Workman will return next year after both winning re-election.

There will be no changes in Rochester’s representation at the Minnesota House. Republicans Duane Quam and Nels Pierson, and Democrats Tina Liebling and Duane Sauke all easily won new two year terms.

Statewide, former First District Congressman Tim Walz will succeed fellow Democrat Mark Dayton as Minnesota Governor next year. Tina Smith, who was appointed by Dayton to fill take over for Democrat Al Franken was elected to the position and Democrat Amy Klobuchar was re-elected. The hotly contested race for Minnesota Attorney General was won by Democrat Keith Ellison.

As of 2 a.m., the race for First District Congress between Democrat Dan Feehan and Republican Jim Hagedorn is too close to call.
