Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council will be asked Monday to approve the hiring of a new Fire Chief. City Human Resources Director Linda Hillerbrand has prepared a resolution recommending the appointment of Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Kerska to succeed retiring Fire Chief Greg Martin at the end of this month.

Kerska, along with Deputy Chief Vance Swisher, were recently certified as the finalists for the position by the Rochester Fire Civil Service Commission. The recommendation to hire Kerska followed that and consideration of the feedback received from the interview panels that met with the candidates and city employees.

Kerska joined the Rochester Fire Department in 1994, while the man he is replacing served as Fire Chief for the past ten years.
