Rochester Garage Fire Spreads to Home, Prompts Evacuations Amid Windy Conditions
The Rochester Fire Department says crews responded to an address at 2028 Valleyhigh Dr. Northwest on the report of a fence fire shortly before 2:15 p.m. The first crews to arrive found the fence and a detached garage fully engulfed in flames and that the fire had spread to the back corner of a house.
Officials say there was also a propane tank near the fire. Crews evacuated homes that were close to the fire area as firefighters began to extinguish the flames.
Rochester fire crews went inside of the home that had partially caught on fire and determined all of the occupants had gotten out and that the blaze did not spread to the house’s interior. No injuries were reported and investigators are still calculating a damage estimate.
The cause of the fire was not available. The evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes once the fire was out.
Officials say the fire fight required a quick response due to the windy and dry conditions Tuesday afternoon. They reminded community members to abide by DNR burning restrictions during dry and windy conditions.
The Rochester Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the fire scene.
