Rochester Woman Gets Probation For Nearly Half Pound Meth Bust
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester woman has been sentenced for possessing nearly a half-pound of methamphetamine.
Drugs Found After Traffic Stop
Olmsted County court records indicate that 54-year-old Mary Xiong Yang was arrested in May of last year after she was pulled over by Rochester police officers on Highway 52. The criminal complaint says the traffic stop was initiated after the arresting officer observed multiple traffic violations.
The court document says Yang exhibited signs of impairment and was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. The criminal complaint says a K-9 was then deployed to inspect the vehicle and alerted to the presence of drugs.
That led to a search of the vehicle and the discovery of more than 200 grams of methamphetamine in Yang’s purse.
Admitted Using Meth
According to the criminal complaint, Yang informed the officer that she had used methamphetamine. The court document indicates that testing of a urine sample detected the presence of the drug.

Drug and DWI Charges
Yang was charged with first-degree drug possession and two misdemeanor counts of DWI. Under a plea agreement, Yang admitted to an amended charge of second-degree drug possession and one of the DWI offenses.
No Additional Jail
She has been sentenced to five years on probation and 17 days in jail, although that portion of her sentence was satisfied with credit for the time she served following her arrest. Yang was also given a stayed 48-month prison sentence that could be imposed if she fails to complete probation.
