Rochester Man Charged for Shooting, Drug Arrest
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office has charged a Rochester man, who was arrested after a shooting and drug discovery over the weekend.
Bail for 28-year-old Demonterious Jackson was set at $100,000 Monday. He was charged with felony firearm possession and 2nd-degree drug possession.
The criminal complaint says officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of 1st St. shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday on the report of a shooting by a woman who lived with Jackson. She told police that she and Jackson had gotten into an argument and that Jackson allegedly fired at least one gun shot into the air outside of their home when she left the residence on foot after the reported altercation.
She also said Jackson was armed with a handgun, paranoid and under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. Officers set up a perimeter and Jackson emerged from the home with his hands up about 45 minutes later, according to the complaint.
Following Jackson’s arrest, police found a spent .380 round and a spent 9mm round in the yard outside of the home. Police also obtained a search warrant and seized about 44 grams of substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, the charges say.
Officers also found ammunition and ammunition magazines for a .380 handgun and 9mm handgun scattered throughout the home during the search. Police recovered the .380 but not the 9mm, the complaint states.
Jackson denied possessing or shooting the handgun. Court records indicate Jackson has been convicted of simple robbery, ineligible possession of a firearm and aggravated robbery. His felony convictions in Olmsted County date back to 2010.
Police say three children were asleep inside of the residence during the incident. No injuries were reported.
