Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - The body of a man who disappeared when his canoe capsized at one of Rochester’s reservoirs has been recovered.

Authorities were notified around 9:30 a.m. Saturday about the mishap at the Silver Creek Reservoir located a few miles east of the city.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Kirby Long says the missing man and a friend - both 20-years-old - began fishing at the reservoir around 6:30 a.m.

Long says it’s not known what caused the canoe to capsize. The men were about 50 yards from shore at the time. Long says the men were not wearing lifejackets, although there were some in the canoe.

One of the men swam to shore and began yelling for help. Two Rochester men - 24-year-old Robert Van Keulen and 19-year-old Troy Green - had arrived a few minutes earlier and heard the man and called 911. Green jumped into the water, swam to the capsized canoe and flipped it over but there was no sign of the missing man.

Recovery efforts began a short while later and divers were called to the scene. The body was recovered around 12:30 p.m. in 12 feet of water.  The identity of the man - who has a Stewartville address - won't be released until Monday.
