Rochester Men Charged With Raping Juvenile – in 1994
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Two Rochester men have been charged with raping a teenage girl - more than 20 years ago, when they were teenagers.
Three counts of criminal sexual conduct have been filed in Olmsted County Court against Rashad Norwood and Derrick Shumpert.
A woman met with a police investigator in June this year. She told the investigator the rape occurred in June 1994 at a Rochester residence when she was a juvenile. At the time, Norwood was 14 and Shumpert was 15.
It’s not known why she didn’t report the alleged rape back then. The criminal complaint says she wanted to “erase the whole thing” and “pretended it never happened.”
Norwood was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a Blue Earth County murder conviction in 1999. He was also sent to prison in 2010 for a drug conviction in Dodge County. Four years later, he was sent back to prison for a drug conviction in the Twin Cities.
He was arrested in Rochester in July after a search of his residence turned up methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana - and $19,000 in cash.
