Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man convicted in a major drug trafficking bust on Hwy. 52 near Rochester has learned his punishment.

24-year-old Omar Yasin Mohamed was charged with two counts of first-degree drug sales and two counts of first-degree drug possession following the June 6 bust. 

He entered a plea agreement last week that calls for him to plead guilty to one of the first-degree drug sales charges in exchange for the dismissal of the other counts.

The criminal complaint says Mohamed and 24-year-old Seila Abdurahman Ibrahim of Rochester were under law enforcement surveillance prior to the Hwy. 52 traffic stop near the 85th St. Northwest overpass.

The subsequent vehicle search led to the discovery of suspected fentanyl pills that weighed 757 grams with packaging. The bag contained as estimated 7,000 to 7,500 fentanyl pills, the charges say. 

Authorities also found a heat-sealed bag that was holding a brick of suspected cocaine. It weighed 268.8 grams with packaging, the court document states.

Both men also had drugs on their person when law enforcement took them into custody, the complaint says. 

Rochester Man Given Chance to Avoid Prison for Major Fentanyl & Cocaine Trafficking  Bust

As part of the plea agreement, Mohamed was given the chance to avoid prison time. On Thursday, the judge abided by the agreement and handed down a stayed five year prison sentence against Mohamed. 

He’s also ordered to spend 180 days in the Olmsted County jail and was given credit for 84 days served behind bars. 

The case against Ibrahim is ongoing. His next hearing is scheduled for next month.
