Charges: Woman Driving 64mph in 30mph Zone Fled Rochester Police Twice

The suspect driver, identified in the complaint as 44-year-old Angela Marie Burt, was first spotted traveling westbound at 64 mph in a 30 mph zone on 14th St. Northeast.

The officer activated the squad’s emergency lights and the vehicle slowed and temporarily stopped in the middle of 14th St. near Broadway Ave. North. Before the officer could approach, Burt took off and turned north onto Broadway, the charges say.

At one point Burt slowed and pulled near the shoulder but took off again and continued northbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed, leading the officer to not pursue, according to the complaint.

Police found the suspect vehicle stopped along 75th St. Northeast about 40 minutes after first contact. Burt then got out of the vehicle and was eventually arrested after refusing officer commands and asking police to shoot her, the charges say.

While speaking with Burt officers smelled the odor of alcohol and observed Burt to be slurring her words and suffering from poor balance. Police also found a broken bottle of rum on the road outside of the vehicle, the complaint says.

Burt was taken to the Olmsted County Jail where she refused to participate in a breath test and field sobriety testing, according to the court document.
