Rochester Man Accused of Fleeing Police Twice, Ramming Garage Door and Nearly Hitting Squad Cars
20-year-old Salmaan Mustaf Ali is charged with two counts of felony fleeing, a gross misdemeanor count of third-degree property damage and a misdemeanor driving after revocation charge.
The criminal complaint says Rochester police responded to a home in the 2600 block of Kenosha Dr. Northwest and were informed Ali had rammed a vehicle into the home’s garage door.
Shortly after responding to the home, officers spotted the vehicle in the 3200 block of Portage Circle Northwest. The charges allege Ali tried to “bait” the officer into a collision and refused to pull over when the officer activated their squad vehicle’s emergency lights.
Ali nearly struck the squad multiple times and the officer decided to terminate the pursuit as Ali pulled onto Superior Dr. Northwest, the complaint says.
A second officer converged on the area and the two officers had Ali’s vehicle boxed in after Ali stopped on the shoulder.
Ali then pulled away, nearly striking another squad car and drove roughly 50 yards before stopping again along Superior Dr. Northwest, the charges say.
At one point Ali began to exit the vehicle and one of the pursuing officers got out of their squad. Ali then returned to his vehicle and accelerated away from the officers at a high speed southbound on Superior Dr., the complaint says.
The officers activated their lights and attempted to follow Ali but lost sight of the vehicle, according to the court document.
A different officer spotted the vehicle leaving Ali’s residence shortly after midnight on Saturday, roughly nine hours after the ordeal began. The officer boxed in the vehicle and arrested Ali, the charges say.
Ali made his first court appearance on Monday morning. His bail was set at $20,000 and Ali is due back in court next month.
