Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Police have released more information regarding a crash in northwest Rochester that severely injured a motorcyclist Thursday morning.

Police Captain Casey Moilanen said officers responded to the SUV-motorcycle crash at the intersection of West Circle Dr. and Wilder Rd. Northwest shortly before 10 a.m. The motorcycle, which was traveling north on West Circle Dr., had collided with an SUV making a left turn onto Wilder Rd. from the southbound lanes of West Circle Dr.

Moilanen said Friday morning that the SUV driver, described as a 31-year-old Rochester woman, appeared to have been waiting in the intersection to make a left turn and had attempted to complete the turn once the light turned red. The motorcyclist, described as a 54-year-old man from Rochester, appeared to have entered the intersection while the light was red and struck the SUV as it was turning.

Moilanen said the occupants of a vehicle on Wilder Rd. told officers their light was green at the time of the crash. The motorcyclist was taken from the crash scene with what are suspected to be serious injuries.

Moilanen said the crash report indicates the man was wearing a helmet. The SUV driver was not hurt. Officers at the scene did not issue any citations and Moilanen said as of Friday morning no charges are planned to be filed as a result of the crash.
