Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities say a man is in custody following a shooting that happened outside of an apartment complex in Rochester Monday night.

Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson says dispatch received multiple reports about a shooting shortly after 9 p.m. 

Responding officers found several spent shell casings at the scene. Grayson said the shooting occurred in the 1900 block of 8 ½ St. SE.

Witnesses told officers the gunman had shot at a group following a verbal exchange then fled the scene. He was later identified as 38-year-old Christopher Coleman of Rochester.

Law enforcement later located his vehicle just outside of Rochester in Chester Township.

Grayson says deputies from the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Marion Rd. and 50th Ave. Southeast.

Coleman was then arrested on suspicion of multiple charges including second-degree assault and reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality. He’s awaiting his first appearance in Olmsted County Court. 

Grayson says it does not appear that anyone was struck by the gunfire. The shooting is under investigation.
