Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man accused of trying to rob a Rochester motel with a tire iron in August has been sentenced to two years on probation.

21-year-old Deshawn Minor pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor burglary charge. He was originally arrested on suspicion a first-degree aggravated robbery after he entered the Staybridge Suites near the Costco Store in northwest Rochester and demanded access to the motel’s safe. After an employee of the motel informed him he did not have the code to open the safe and a manager reached by phone refused to give up the code, the masked robber fled with about $200 he grabbed from the cash drawer.

Rochester police later obtained a search warrant for his apartment and arrested Minor after investigators reviewed the video recorded by the motel’s security system and some of the workers at the motel recognized the mannerisms of the robber as being similar to those exhibited by Minor when he previously worked at the business.
