Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The City of Rochester saw a decline across most major crime categories last year compared to 2024.

That’s according to the Rochester Police Department’s annual report.

Along with the reported crime count, the annual report also includes pounds of drugs seized by officers and overdoses. 

Rochester Police Department Releases Annual Report

After seeing five homicides/incidents of involuntary manslaughter in 2024, the city saw one murder in 2025. 

Reported sex offenses dropped from 90 to 85, vehicle thefts decreased from 115 to 64 and burglaries fell from 216 in 2024 to 179 last year.

Rochester did see a rise in arson and aggravated assaults. Reported arson cases in the city increased from five last year to 12 in 2025. 125 aggravated assaults were reported last year, an increase from 120 in 2024. 

Drug Seizures Drop, Overdoses Tick Up

The Police Department’s Criminal Interdiction Unit seized 2.11 pounds of fentanyl in 2025, down from 2.57 pounds seized in 2024. Meth seizures fell from 28.78 pounds in 2024 to 20.59 in 2025. 

Officers captured 610.1 grams of cocaine in 2025, a decrease from 803 grams in 2024. 6.1 grams of crack were seized last year, which is less than half of 12.5 grams of crack seized in 2024.

The drug cases in 2025 resulted in 153 arrests, the report says. 

Drug overdoses increased to 60 in 2025. That’s three higher than 2024 but still half of the overdoses reported in 2022. 

Calls Drop for School & Hospital Resource Officers, Downtown Officers

Along with patrolling the community, the police department also stations officers at the Rochester Public School District Schools, Mayo Clinic facilities and throughout downtown Rochester. 

The main types of calls they handle are assists, suspicious circumstances and disorderly conduct incidents, according to the report. 

The report says school resources officers responded to 523 calls in 2025. That’s down from 560 last year. Hospital resource officers responded to 1,606 calls, a decrease from 1,790 in 2024. 

Downtown officers responded to 1,104 calls last year, a drop from 1,138 calls in 2024.
