Rochester Police Make 2 Arrests Connected to Recent Apartment Shooting
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester Police Department says two people are in custody in connection to a shooting that occurred during a Halloween party in southeast Rochester last week.
The shooting occurred at Quarters Apartments near Rochester Community and Technical College. Officers were dispatched to the apartment complex around 11:55 p.m. on the night of October 27.
The shooting began in a hallway outside of an apartment where a large party was happening. The incident then spilled out into the apartment complex’s parking lot where more gunfire erupted, police say.
Earlier this week Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen said a bullet hit a 20-year-old woman in the eye while she was sitting in a vehicle. On Friday Moilanen said officers arrested the gunman suspected of shooting at the vehicle and injuring the young woman.
He is identified as 18-year-old Aaron Caradine of Rochester. The report indicates the man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle Caradine allegedly shot at returned fire at Caradine but did not appear to have hit anything.
He has been identified as 21-year-old Daniel Young of Stewartville. The Olmsted County Jail roster indicates both men were taken into custody on Thursday.
Both suspected shooters were arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, drive-by shooting towards a person and reckless discharge of a firearm. They’re awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.
Moilanen said investigators are still trying to determine who fired a gunshot in the apartment’s hallway and who discharged the bullets that struck two other buildings in the complex. One of the rounds that hit one of the buildings entered a bedroom that was unoccupied at the time of the shooting.
Moilanen says additional arrests are possible. He said so far investigators have recovered one gun that was suspected of being used in the shooting.
