Rochester Police Officer Hurt, Suspect Fired At Early Wednesday
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was shot at early Wednesday after he reportedly struck a police officer with his car.
The incident took place at the Valleyhigh Flats apartment complex located on Kenosha Dr NW.
Police Lt. Frank Ohm says the incident actually began across town around 2:00 AM when a DUI officer pulled the man over on Eastgate Dr SE. The man drove off and was followed to the apartment complex where he stopped in the parking lot.
Ohm says he then drove at the officer who was standing in the lot. The man’s car hit the officer and he flew over the vehicle. The men then rammed two squad cars and that’s when an officer fired at the vehicle. The man stopped in a nearby field and a taser had to be used to get him under control.
The name of the 26-year-old Rochester man hasn’t been released.
The officer who was struck was taken to St. Marys Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Because a police officer fired a gun during the incident, the state BCA is in charge of the investigation.
The apartment complex is located a few blocks northwest of the Mayo Clinic Laboratories site along Valleyhigh Dr.
