Rochester Police Pulled Suicidal Woman Away From Edge of Bridge
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Police officers were successful in thwarting an apparent suicide attempt early this morning.
Police Captain Casey Moilanen says officers responded just before 4 AM to a call about a woman standing outside the railing on the 19th Street Northwest bridge over Highway 52. The officers indicated the 21-year-old woman was in an obvious crisis and contemplating jumping from the bridge.
Moilanen says they engaged her in conversation in hopes of calming her and preventing her from jumping. After about 30 minutes, the officers managed to move close enough to grab the young woman and move her away from immediate danger.
She was then taken by ambulance to St. Marys Hospital for evaluation.
