Rough Water Prevents Boat Search for Teen Who Fell in River in Minnesota
Taylors Falls, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rough water on Thursday prevented search and rescue crews from using boats to find a Wisconsin teenager who fell into the St. Croix River earlier this week.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office identified the missing teen Thursday as 18-year-old D'Andrea Sanvig. The Luck, WI native fell into the river after losing his footing at an overlook in Minnesota's Interstate Park Tuesday evening.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that the water flow rate and amount of debris floating in the river made it impossible to safely navigate the waterway with searching equipment. Officials plan to continue using air and ground search methods.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office Minnesota Water Rescue Division joined the search on Thursday. Crews are evaluating the situation and adjusting the search daily. So far there have been no signs of the young man.
Authorities plan to evaluate the situation on the water when it is deemed safe to do so. The St. Croix River is expected to crest next week.
