Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The homeless woman charged for a murder at a Rochester park last summer has entered a guilty plea.

A passerby reported finding the body of 28-year-old Marcus Martin at Mayo West Park in downtown Rochester last June. 

Rochester police investigators determined that Martin, who was homeless, did not die in the area he was found, according to the criminal complaint.

Court documents say on June 26, 26-year-old Ruth Miller told investigators she killed Martin by strangling him with a belt.

Miller also took officers to the Rochester Public Library where she stashed Martin’s possession after alleged killing him, the criminal complaint says. She said Martin told her he wanted to die.

Investigators, who did not yet have the results of Martin’s autopsy, decided not to apprehend Miller, according to the criminal complaint.

In August, the Southern Minnesota Medical Examiner’s Office determined Martin died as the result of strangulation, the complaint says.

Law enforcement then took Miller into custody in Chaska. Miller was charged with second-degree murder, interference with a dead body and felony theft. 

Woman Charged in Rochester, MN Park Murder Set to Enter Plea Deal

She pleaded not guilty to the charges in September but reversed course and entered a plea agreement on Monday, according to court records. 

Miller agreed to plead guilty to the second-degree murder charge in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges, the court filing indicates. 

The agreement comes with a presumptive prison sentence of more than 27 years. Miller is scheduled to appear for a court hearing to finalize the plea deal on Thursday.
