It's not often you get to be a part of history, but that's exactly what happened to this fire crew when they clocked in for their shift last weekend.

The city of Eagan, in the southeast Twin Cities metro, isn't too far away from Rochester. (It's 71 miles north on Highway-52, btw.) It's the home of the Vikings TCO Performance Center, and has a population of just over 66,000. (About half the size of Rochester's population.) But Eagan's Fire Department just made history last Saturday.

According to the city of Eagan website, the Eagan Fire Department has been around since 1963:

The mission of the Eagan Fire Department is dedicated to protecting and serving the community with a reliable response by highly trained professionals. The dedicated men and women of the Eagan Fire Department protect the lives and property of our community from three fire stations strategically located throughout the city. Eagan operates a combination department, made up of both career and part-time firefighters.

And, according to the Eagan Facebook page, the department just made history on Saturday, November 6th, 2021 when the first all-female firefighter crew reported for duty on Engine 2. Captain Jessica Hoffman, Firefighter Danielle Fasching, and Firefighter Natalie Holter were all part of the history-making crew.

WCCO reported that the three firefighters didn't plan for the occasion, it just happened. "It was just going be another night at work,” Captain Hoffman said in the story. What makes it an even more impressive achievement is the fact that according to FOX-9 -TV, females currently account for only four percent of career firefighters.

Congratulations, Eagan firefighters, on your history-making achievement!
