Northfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - Slick conditions created by a thin coating of snow this morning contributed to several crashes in the Rochester area and a fatal crash on I-35 near Northfield.

The State Patrol says a 44-year-old Lonsdale man was killed when his vehicle crashed into a camper being pulled by a pickup truck that slid through the median and was blocking the northbound lanes of the freeway near the Highway 19 interchange. The 19-year-old Farmington man driving the pickup and his 18-year-old passenger were not hurt. The State Patrol says a third vehicle also collided with the camper but the driver, a 27-year-old Owatonna man, was not hurt. The deadly collision was reported around 5 AM.

One of the traffic crashes reported near Rochester sent a Dodge Center woman to St. Mary’s hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol says 25-year-old Cara Schluesner was on the exit ramp from southbound Highway 56 to eastbound Highway 14 when she lost control and her car left the roadway and rolled over around 8:30 a.m.

The State Patrol also responded this afternoon to a traffic crash at the junction of Highway 57 and Highway 52 in Goodhue County. The crash report says 84-year-old Mary Tweite of Byron was crossing Highway 52 when her car collided with a minivan headed north on Highway 52 shortly after 1 p.m. Tweite was transported to St. Marys Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
