St. Marys Hospital Water Deemed Safe
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Operations at the St. Marys Hospital campus in Rochester are returning to normal, at least as far as the water supply is concerned.
The staff and patients at the hospital were forced to use bottled water for drinking after it was noticed that something was discoloring the water in toilets and faucets throughout the facility. A Mayo spokesperson today issued a statement indicating a preliminary analysis shows the discoloration was caused by filtering material from the well serving the complex. It goes on to say the water supply has been tested and deemed safe and notes initial tests did not find any issues with bacterial contamination or heavy metals.
The problem kept patients out of showers, disrupted operations in the hospital cafeteria and forced the Mayo Clinic to purchase and distribute close to 100,000 bottles of water. The water issue occurred during an already busy week of preparations for the long-planned switch over to the new Epic patient records system this weekend.
